About Us

Nakshatra is the astronomy and science club of National Institute of Technology - Trichy. It’s primary activities is to conduct regular stargazing sessions to familiarize people with the night sky and to learn science in the process. We also conduct fun events during technical fests, informal meets, and lectures to popularize science, inculcate the spirit of inquiry and conduct discussions on scientific topics of public interest.

Our views of reality comprise only a minuscule fraction of what there is, our aim is to broaden our picture to gain the cosmic perspective. Science is not a mere collection of facts, it is organized curiosity.

More information about the club and its aims can be obtained from our Mission Statement.

Stargazing at the Admin Block terrace.

Nakshatra (then known as Astronomy Amateurs) started as a group under the Campus Development Committee along with other groups during August 2012. It started out by conducting informal stargazing sessions at hostel rooftops with a personal telescope (it helped pass the time when we had to endure nasty 12 hour power cuts). It started official stargazing sessions on April 2013, and still does so today - usually in the Admin block terrace.
